Every Three Oaks bean is traceable to a farm we’ve built a deep relationship with - just ask Sean, our head roaster, who travels across the globe to visit each farm himself. We utilize recommended roast levels provided by our farmers to quality test our roasts and each batch is roasted, cupped, and calibrated to ensure the optimal tasting profile is achieved before offering to our customers. It’ll be the best cup of coffee you’ve ever tasted.

We don’t cut corners when it comes to protecting our planet (and our people!).
Three Oaks Roasting Co. understands that producing coffee is a high-resource process, and we’re committed to providing an ethical and equitable environment from the first bean to the final brew.
We’re on a mission to caffeinate consciously with ethically sourced beans, sustainable roasting practices, and a community of coffee-obsessed customers who savor every sip.
We source best-in-class beans from across the globe, roasting them to perfection at our family-run roastery in Shelby, NC.
Meet Our Founders, Sean & Janaé Johnson
After a trip to explore a coffee bean farm in Chiapas, Mexico with our friends from Broken Rib Coffee, the java juices started flowing.
We spent the whole flight home dreaming up how we can best support the farmers we met and build a partnership with BRC. A palette of green beans later, Midwood Coffee Roasters was born.
Sean started home roasting in 2014 using an air popper for popcorn. In 2017 we moved to Plaza Midwood in Charlotte, NC, where he got a gig with a local coffee house to roast on a Probat L12 roaster and hone his sensory roaster skills. Not long after, Midwood Coffee was born. Let’s just say our house had the best coffee in the neighborhood!
Janae joined the team after retiring from her corporate job and wanting to build a family business along her husband and children. Her vision was to expand and rebrand our business to serve our growth as a production roaster better and represent our values, becoming Three Oaks Roasting. The shift aligns better with all the current offerings including wholesale and the Coffee Lab Experience located inside Wine Collective at Uptown Shelby. You can find our products for sale at the spot or simply enjoy a brewing experience.
